Young-ho, an Ethnic-Korean living in Japan, decides to close the pachinko parlor that he has operated with his mother Kyung-ja for 50 years along National Route 7 in Akita Prefecture, Japan. When he invites his mother on an overseas trip to celebrate her retirement, she expresses her desire to visit Niigata instead of going abroad. At Niigata Port, Young-ho realizes what this visit meant to his mother, as he recalls how aunt Soon-ja had departed for North Korea from Niigata Port during the mass repatriation project. After his mother passes away, Young-ho, now alone, discovers an old letter from North Korea addressed to his mother. Meanwhile, his daughter Nana, who had been living apart with her Japanese mother following the divorce, comes to visit him. Nana becomes deeply intrigued by the letter from North Korea. Guided by his mother's will, Young-ho embarks on a journey with Nana, driving along South Korea's Route 7 heading northward.

Hanna learned to crochet in a bridal class, from her grandmother Chunza. 15 years have passed by, and Hanna had grown from a child to an adult. To Hanna, crocheting is a way to meditate, to relieve her from emotions, but to others, crocheting is nothing but a girl’s hobby. Hanna decides to reflect her past experiences and emotions in the 'Mandala Madness' crochet, the ultimate crochet of all crochets. She dreams of carrying out the most significant rebellion, with a mean that’s considered the most trivial and feminine. Hanna hangs the completed Mandala and dresses up as drag queen and king in front of it. She thinks about the meaning of crocheting that Chunza taught her, while singing and dancing. The song ends like this: "Chunza can be anyone."

Dong-gyu, who lives in Gimcheon, travels to Seoul to show his mother’s Itaewon house. The visitor, Shinji, is Japanese and reportedly involved in human rights activism in Korea. When they meet again to check the house, Dong-gyu learns that Shinji is staying in the country illegally. Even after returning to Gimcheon, Dong-gyu continues to worry about him and suggests meeting in Itaewon on Halloween.
